With White Angelica coming back in stock, so many people have reached out asking why it is contraindicated in people with diabetes?
It’s Not, and Here’s Why
- There are multiple Angelica plant species out there. Angelica hirsutiflora has been shown to lower blood sugar and is one remedy for diabetes in traditional Chinese medicine. Since it can lower blood sugar, there is a risk of adverse effects and has encouraged some people to avoid it if they have diabetes. Angelica sinesis may also cause blood sugar lowering. Here’s the thing….Young Living doesn’t offer Angelica hirsutiflora as an oil. Ours is Angelica archangelica, and it has not been shown to impact blood sugars in this same manner.
- Angelica the plant is a root that is packed full of sugar and is not recommended in people with diabetes. But…sugars don’t distill into oils because they are water soluble.
- White Angelica doesn’t even contain any Angelica essential oil, so the whole debate makes me 🤦🏻♀️
Let me help.

The Difference Between Super Cal and Super Cal Plus
2 weeks 3 days ago :: Blog, Learn
New Supplements Like Super Cal Plus Can Be Confusing
When new supplements come to Young Living, it can be confusing to figure out how they differ from existing products. This is certainly the case with Super Cal and Super Cal Plus.
Both are Calcium and Magnesium Supplements
The older formulation of Super Cal contains 24% of an adults recommended daily allowance (RDA) of calcium, and 29% of the daily allowance of magnesium. Super Cal Plus is similar with 20% RDA of Calcium and 30% RDA for magnesium. Both supplements can help to support normal bone and teeth health, enzyme function, and nerve and muscle function. I love the combination of magnesium and calcium, because magnesium helps to drive calcium into bones. This prevents it from combining with fat in the arteries and increase the risk for heart disease.
The dose of each supplement is the same: 2 capsules, once a day with food. Both can be combined with other Young Living Supplements like Sulfurzyme, Life 9 (just be sure to separate the doses), and Super B. They are labeled for use in adults and children over 12 years old. If you currently use Master Formula, you may choose not to use Super Cal or Super Cal Plus unless you want the extra support of the bones.
The both contain potential allergens: gelatin and stearic acid.
But. . .
Super Cal Plus’s calcium and magnesium is part of a synergistic blend of marine minerals that includes not only calcium and magnesium, but also up to 70 other minerals. The blend is extracted from Red Algae, a plant that naturally absorbs the minerals from the ocean. The blend helps improve the bioavailability of the calcium. Super Cal Plus also contains high quality Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2. The combination of Vitamin D and Calcium has been shown to help prevent osteoporosis when accompanied by a healthy diet. While Vitamin K is not as critical to bones health as Vitamin D and Calcium, it does help to ensure that calcium stays in the bones and not in the arteries.
On the other hand. . .
Super Cal is not devoid of minerals. It contains Zinc, Potassium, and Boron, but they are not from the mineral blend.
The Essential Oils are also Different
Super Cal Plus contains Idaho Blue Spruce, Northern Lights Black Spruce, Copaiba, Vetiver and Peppermint.
Super Cal contains Marjoram, Wintergreen, Lemongrass and Myrtle.
My Bottom Line
Super Cal and Super Cal Plus are both excellent supplements. I personally choose to use Super Cal Plus because I like that the minerals are extracted directly from plants. Let me know which one you select!
The November 2017 cleanse was a huge success!
From November 1-21st, a group of 350 people joined in a biannual cleanse. This group quickly bonded and shared recipes and self-care tips, and celebrated triumphs together. For three weeks, we all ate a wheat-free, sugar-free, caffeine-free, alcohol-free, and 100% plant based diet.
Eliminating foods like meat, dairy, sugar, and alcohol can seem intimidating at first. So can the amount of food prep and cooking that is initially required. But, you get to experiment with new ingredients, try new cooking techniques, and more rapidly flush toxins from your body.
Health Benefits of Cleanses
Cleansing is nothing new. Cleanses are part of many healthcare and spiritual traditions. Plant-based dietary cleanses have been shown to:
- Decrease body weight, waist and hip circumference, blood pressure, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL, ‘bad’) cholesterol,
- Reduce risk of coronary heart disease, diabetes and metabolic syndrome, and
- Increase testosterone in men.
What does the cleanse entail?
When you sign up for a cleanse, you receive a bank of recipes that will help you get started with plant based eating, journal prompts to help guide you through the emotional journey, and access to an exclusive online community.
This cleanse was special for me, because the group of participants were so engaged, committed, and creative. It wasn’t always easy! The first couple of days on the cleanse were rough on a lot of people. Sugar crashes, caffeine crashes, travel woes, and lack of familiarity with the food ingredients generated loads of questions and triggered some difficult emotions.
Once we got going, our Facebook group was alive with excitement, full of detailed recipes, and a center of empowerment for all of us. I gazed in wonder at the bountiful, vibrant food that people created. I was inspired by the stories of successes of plant-based eating in stubborn children and husbands. This group gave me so much, and am grateful that so many lives were changed.
The cleanses just get better and better!
April Howton , Kelli Wright and I worked together over the summer to put together an initial collection of recipes, and thanks to feedback from the cleansers, the recipes are more direct and delicious.
We also were joined on this cleanse by a professional recipe tester who helped me ensure that instructions were clear (no more glugs of olive oil, needs to be teaspoons, lol). Many participants gave excellent feedback that ensured that have helped transform the recipes from personal to professional.
On this cleanse, April and I stretched ourselves to create new recipes that met the needs of participants. For example, we had a lot of people who choose to avoid all soy. I am a tofu junkie, and many of my recipes use tofu. But, I honor that some people choose to avoid it, so we created new, inspired dishes for them. We also put together a vegan thanksgiving spread, and easy to cook Crock-Pot options.
I completed AromaYoga training over the summer, and it was great to be able to bring in more meditation, visualization, and yoga to the mix.
Those before and afters, though!
The average participant lost between 5-10 lbs on the cleanse. We had 2 people who were able to discontinue diabetes medications. One of them noticed significant blood sugar reductions in a mere 9 days. Another cleanser was able to decrease the dose of medicines to treat inflammation. Cleansers reported having better breath in the morning, better bowel movements, increased desire for sexual activity, and improved overall wellness.
Several of the cleansers have mentioned that they don’t ever wish to return to the way they used to eat. Instead, they opt for cleaner choices on a daily basis!
Here are a few examples of the success of our cleansers!

The ART Beauty Masque is back and the formula is better than ever!
Want hydrated skin, with a visibly firmer complexion, and more supple skin? Time to try the ART Beauty Masque!
What is new?
Enhanced with algae extract to hydrate and conditions the skin, trehalose to moisturize, and dipotassium glycyrrihizate to condition the skin.
Hylauronic acid has been changed to sodium hyaluronate which provides smaller molecules that penetrate the skin more easily, and this helps to bind moisture to the skin.
The paper masque is now thinner, smaller masque that is comfortable without slipping.
Some of the best ingredients are still here.
It still contains the same amazing plant extracts and orchid extracts.
My favorite way to use this Masque is to: wash with ART Gentle Cleanser, exfoliate with the Satin Facial Scrub Mint, and then apply the ART Beauty Masque and float away in the aroma of Stress Away. Finish with toner, ART Renewal Serum, and ART Intensive Moisturizer.
MindWise is a wonderful supplement from Young Living and it is now available in a sachet!
What makes MindWise in the sachets so popular? Well, it is basically 3 supplements in one. It contains 100% of your daily dose of Vitamin D3, it provides healthy fats, as well as bioidentical CoQ-10.
This is the perfect supplement for anyone who wants to support normal brain health and cardiovascular function.
Not only has the preparation changed, but so has the formula. Let’s discuss the new product.
The old MindWise formula has a slightly oily and gritty texture, and the formula inside the sachets does not. The oiliness came from Sacha Inchi Nut Oil, and the new formula now contains Sacha Inchi Seed Oil. Sacha Inchi Seed Oil contains naturally occuring omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, and unsaturated fats.
The new formula also has an improved berry and nut flavor. Now açai puree and pomegranate juice lend the predominate flavors. Young Living Essential Oils such as peppermint, fennel, anise, lemon and lime enhances the flavor. MindWise still has a hint of nuttiness from fractionated coconut oil.
Internationally Compatible Formulation
Rejoice Canadians, Europeans, Central and South Americans, Asians, and Aussies! The new MindWise was formulated to with foreign members in mind. It now has a higher likelihood of coming to your local market! Lithium orotate was removed from the formula, because this ingredient prevented MindWise from being a registered product in most foreign countries.
If you loved the lithium in the old formulation for it’s calming and relaxing properties, consider adding Mineral Essence to your supplement routine. You will get a blend of naturally occurring lithium salts in this supplement, abut 2.5 mg/serving (and this is more than twice as much as was in MindWise!). Mineral Essence also tells a great Seed to Seal story! The mineral blend is pulled directly out of the ground underneath the Great Salt Lake! If you have never used Mineral Essence, it has a strong flavor, so be sure to mix it with your NingXia Red each morning.
Easier on the Go
The MindWise sachets do not require refrigeration. They are easy to throw in your bag and go! Once the sachet is opened, MindWise should be consumed immediately. The sachets will last you several months before they expire. With all the yummy goodness, your box of 30 sachets will be gone each month!
Some of the Best Ingredients are Still Here!
Some things didn’t change in the new formula. There is still the MindWise memory blend that contain GPC, ALCAR, CoQ10, turmeric, and Rhododendron extract. GPC is a fat than may help to coat the cells in your body. ALCAR helps the mitochondria in your cells to produce energy. CoQ10 is an antioxidant that is present in every cell of your body. Turmeric and Rhododendron extract are powerful antioxidants.
Who should use MindWise?
MindWise is for anyone who wants to support their brain or their cardiovascular health.
MindWise is the perfect supplement for anyone who wants healthy omega-3 fatty acids in a vegetarian form. It is also a great alternative to OmegaGize3 either when it is out of stock or when people prefer to avoid animal ingredients.
This product is not recommended for children less than four years old. Many parents choose to give it to their older children, because it can be quite challenging to get healthy fats in kids.
While there is nothing in here that makes me think MindWise would be dangerous if you are pregnant or nursing, it is always a good idea to discuss with your healthcare provider, and be sure that you are okay with all of the essential oils in the blend.

What do the colors of the bottles mean?
Young Living is known for their bright colors, especially on their oil bottles, and you may question what the colors of the bottles signify. Though I do not know for sure, in the past, there may have been a time that the oils were labeled based on their energetic properties or relationship to the chakras. Nowadays, the essential oil bottle labels reflect the color of the botanicals contained within the oil.
But, there are some colors on labels in Young Living’s product line that do have significant meaning: the colors on the supplement labels. Supplements come in three different colors: blue, green, and red, and each of these has a very specific meaning.
The blue labels are for foundational nutrition such as Master Formula, OmegaGize3, and Longevity. Most of these supplements provide core building blocks for the function of the body, including vitamins, probiotics, minerals, omega-3 fatty acids. Longevity, on the other hand, provides essential oils that protect these building blocks. If someone is brand new Young Living’s supplements, the blue ones are a great place to start. While not everyone is familiar with the names of Young Living’s supplements, most people are familiar with general categories of supplements such as multivitamins, individual vitamins (such as vitamin D, C, or B), omega-3s, probiotics, or minerals. Look for the blue labels when you want these familiar supplements.
The green labels are for cleansing nutrition such JuvaTone, ICP, Comfortone, and Rehemogen. When you think of supplements with green labels, I want you to remember the gut. These supplements primarily cleanse the gastrointestinal tract. Whether bulking up the stool, supporting the muscles that propel stool out of the body, absorbing toxins, or cleansing the liver or intestines, these supplements generally have a role in digestion and detoxification.
The red labels provide targeted nutrition such as Sulfurzyme, Essentialzyme, PowerGize, and Pure Protein Complete. Targeted nutrition serves a specific purpose, and not every supplement is appropriate for every person. The red labels span a wide variety of supplements. First, there are the endocrine system support supplements such as Thyromin, PD 80/20, FemiGen, and Estro. Then athletic support supplements such as Pure Protein Complete, PowerGize, and AgilEase. Additionally, there are digestive enzymes such as Essentialzyme and Detoxzyme. Products with red labels support a specific part of the body or provide a key ingredient for a body process.
How to Apply this Information
Knowing this labeling is a great way to adjust your thinking when one products is out of stock. For example, if you take AgilEase for joint support, but it is out of stock, consider a supplement with a red label such as Sulfurzyme or PowerGize.
The next time that Young Living’s array of supplements seems daunting, just remember your label colors. While the blue, green, and red system isn’t 100% foolproof, it will get you closer to a great choice!
There are very few food products out there that are as polarizing as tofu. Some people love it and others hate it vehemently. Among them, the debate over the health risks and benefits rages on. You may disagree with me, but I am a huge fan of tofu.
Sue me, I love the stuff, and here’s why:
It is versatile.
- Tofu comes in many different varieties: from silken to extra firm. Extra firm tofu has the least amount of water, and it generally used as a main component of a dish. It is sturdy enough to hold up to grilling, skewering, stir fries, dicing, and sauteing. Extra firm tofu can also be crumbled to make scrambles and salads. Silken tofu contains the most water, and is (in my home) generally blended into both sweet and savory sauces. In Chinese and Korean cooking, you may also find silken tofu in stir fry and soups, but I prefer to use extra firm tofu for this instead.
It is a sauce master.
- Tofu is also a neutral receiver of all kinds of sauce. You can lend any flavor to the tofu. Simple sauces like soy sauce, agave and vinegar, rich sauces like red curry and coconut milk, and hearty roasted tomato sauces are all delicious with tofu.
It is probably good for you.
- I’m ducking from the virtual stones I am seeing hurled my way. The jury may still be out on this issue because the data can be all over the place, but, in general, it is my opinion that tofu can be a healthy part of the human diet.
- Tofu is packed full of isoflavones, and there is evidence to suggest that the isoflavones in soy may:
Are you sure about this? I thought it mimicked estrogen?
- Now, soy does get a bad rap because of the particular isoflavones that are also phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens are molecules that can bind the estrogen receptor and may turn it on or off. Many worry that the food will have a negative impact on hormone balance.
- But here is my question: when is the last time that you questioned how much estrogen was in the meat, egg, or dairy on your plate? “Endogenous steroid hormones in food of animal origin are unavoidable as they occur naturally in these products.” In other words, you are ingesting full potency estrogens when you eat meat or drink dairy.
A lot of people counter this argument by stating that they use hormone-free meat; while you may be eating no hormone added meats, there is still steroid hormone in the meat or dairy product. Estrogen levels in processed meats may also be associated with declining sperm counts in men.
- We spend a lot of time working to avoid endocrine disrupting compounds such as BPA, phytoestrogens, dioxins, and phthalates, but we miss one of the most common sources of sex steroid: meat and dairy. Even worse, animal waste from farming may contribute up to 90% of estrogens in the environment, including the water supply.
Tofu allows you to vote with your fork.
- When selecting tofu, I strongly encourage you to choose non-genetically modified version. You can look for the “non-GMO Project Verified” butterfly, or for the organic label. Whenever I select an organic soy product, it makes me feel good to stand opposed to the work of Monsanto and the genetic modification of our food supply.

MightyVites is back and better than ever!
Formulated with premium vitamins, minerals, and food-based nutrients to support general health and well-being, MightyVites energizes, builds and supports your child’s wellness.
Ingredients include nutrients-dense super fruits like wolfberry and vegetables like barley grass and broccoli. There is also Orgen-FA and Orgen-kids. These ingredients provide naturally derived folate as well as board spectrum B-vitamins including thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, and biotin.
There are other water-soluble vitamins C, and fat soluble vitamins A, D, and E.
Lastly there are minerals including zinc, magnesium, and selenium.
Orgen-Kid® provides most of the vitamins listed on the label all except Vitamin A, D, and methycobalamin. The source of these vitamins are Curry leaf extract, Guava fruit extract, Lemon peel extract, Sesbania leaf extract, Amla fruit extract, Holy basil aerial parts extract, Annato seed extract.
How to Use MightyVites
MightyVites is for children ages 4-12. The dose is 4 tablets chewed daily. You can either have your child take all 4 tablets at one time, or throughout the day. There is one month’s worth of doses in one container.
But Lindsey! Why is it so expensive?
MightyVites is a complete reformulation that includes natural Vitamins and Minerals extracted from organic fruits and vegetables. This product can now be considered as an extension of Master Formula. It is next to impossible to find kids-vitamins on the store shelf that are as clean as almost all of them contain at least one synthetic vitamin and mineral. MightyVites is a step above and does not! Plus we were able to take out all of the soy ingredients!
But it doesn’t contain essential oils?
Kids have sensitive little bodies, and Young Living wanted to ensure that we had the highest quality vitamins and minerals. The old formulation of MightyVites also did not include essential oils.
But the sugar?
Yes, we admit there are sweeteners. However 3 do not contain any calories or sugar and are sugar alcohols or natural plant extracts. Only one, fructose, a natural fruit sugar contains any calories or carbohydrates. Since MightyVites is a chewable tablet, there has to be something to ensure that it is palatable and that kids will take it.

Last time I was in South East Asia, I got more sunburned than I have been in my entire life. Maybe I needed sunscreen?
Many blogs told me that carrot seed essential oil would provide adequate sun protection. For me at least, all of that is a bunch of lies. I was coated in essential oil, and I ended up looking like this, not mention being dyed orange for over 2 weeks.
Now I am back in Southeast Asia, and even though there is plenty of rain because it is the rainy season instead of the sunny season like last time, there is still plenty of sun to be had. This time, I brought my Mineral Sunscreen Lotion with me to protect me from all the harsh rays.
When Young Living first launched the Mineral Sunscreen Lotion, there were a lot of concern it. Let’s talk through some of the concerns:
Sunscreens in general are toxic.
Not true. There are two different types of sunscreens on the marker. The first is chemical sunscreen and the second is barrier sunscreen. Chemical sunscreens include a combination of ingredients such as avobenzone, oxybenzone, octorylene, homosalate and others, whereas barrier sunscreens include zinc oxide or titanium dioxide as the primary ingredient. Both are known to filter ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun, and they do it in different ways.
Chemical sunscreens work by absorbing UV light, whereas barrier sunscreen physically block UV light. Chemical sunscreens are known to cross the skin barrier, and may contribute to systemic toxicity. The concern for systemic toxicity with barrier sunscreens arises when the particles are very small.
Zinc oxide can be absorbed into the skin and there is no way to know if it is safe or not.
When Young Living designed the Mineral Sunscreen Lotion, we specifically created it with non-nano zinc oxide. ‘Nano’ is basically an easy way to say, ‘really tiny.’ In more scientific terms, nano means that there are particles that are 10-9 smaller than a meter, or one billionth of a meter. If a meter is 1, a nanometer would be 0.000000001 meters. Count ‘em, the ‘1’ is in the 9th place because nano means nine.
Nano particles may be absorbed across the surface of the skin. There is little to no data about what happens once it has crossed the surface of the skin. However the data that we do have is not great, as there is evidence that it may cause liver dysfunction and liver dysfunction in offspring. While it may not be dangerous all the time, there is not data to confirm that it is generally safe either. Therefore, Young Living chose to avoid them until we have additional safety information.
Non-nano zinc oxide such as those in the Mineral Sunscreen Lotion are large enough to where they do not cross the surface of the skin. They help to ensure that there are no unforeseen dangers.
The SPF of 10 is too low to provide adequate coverage against skin damage.
Let’s first talk through what SPF even is. SPF stands for sun protection factor. It is a measure of how well an agent blocks UVB rays (the kind that cause skin cancer). When not wearing sunscreen, your skin will naturally change color and incur a certain amount of damage in one hour. If you are wearing an SPF of 2 you will incur that same amount of damage in 2 hours that you would have incurred in one hour without any SPF. An SPF of 10 will get you 10 hours, SPF 30 will get you 30 hours, etc.
Here’s the thing, SPF is not linear (i.e. you don’t get 10 times more protection going from SPF 1 to 10 or 10 to 100). When you apply SPF 10, you are blocking approximately 90% of UVB rays. SPF 15, approximately 93%; SPF 30, approximately 97%; and SPF 50, 98%. So applying an SPF of 30 only gives you 7% more protection than SPF 10.
Also worth considering: if you do not plan on spending more than 10 hours in the sun, you may not need the 30 hours of protection than an SPF 30 may offer. In fact, when is the last time you saw 30 hours of daylight?
Bottom line, lower SPFs, applied more often, may offer similar sun protection as higher SPFs.
Why I was concerned?
When I have used mineral sunscreens in the past, I have struggled to get them to blend in. Everyone remembers those horrible streaks of neon down the nose in the 80s, right? Thankfully, the Mineral Sunscreen Lotion blends in easily and does not leave a residue behind. Girl gotta look her best, even on the beach.
Are there downsides to mineral sunscreens?
Sure. As with any product, there are always pros and cons. Mineral sunscreens may rinse off more easily because they sit on the surface of the skin. Therefore it is important to reapply them regularly. Mineral sunscreens may leave an opaque residue on the skin, and you have to be selective about which one you use. Ensure you select one that absorbs easily. Mineral sunscreens must be applied liberally to ensure adequate coverage. Don’t skimp!
How do we use the Mineral Sunscreen Lotion most effectively?
1. Apply 15 minutes before exposure to the sun.
2. Reapply at least every 80 minutes when swimming or sweating, or every 2 hours.
3. Apply to children older than 6 months old, unless under the consultation of a physician.
4. Feel good that you are using a formula that is free from: UV chemical sunscreens, parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, animal-derived ingredients, synthetic preservatives, synthetic fragrances, or synthetic dyes.

Life 9 is one of Young Living’s most popular products.
It is a probiotic that can help to populate the gut with beneficial bacteria. Life 9 boasts 17 billion live bacteria from 9 different strains. There are bifidobacterium that populate the entire gut, lactobacillus that populate the small intestine, and streptococcus thermophillus.
This blend of bacteria helps to support normal gut health, promotes healthy digestion, helps maintain normal intestinal function. When the gut is healthy, then the immune system can optimally function. When our guts are optimally populated with good bacteria, we are also more able to digest food and our liver is less burdened.
So what to do now that Life 9 is out of stock? The answer surprised me.
I am a huge advocate of digestive enzymes: Essentialzyme, Essentialzyme-4, Allerzyme or Detoxzyme are all wonderful options to support digestive health. But they do not specifically help support bacterial health in the gut. So what do I recommend: Master Formula or Sulfurzyme powder. What? What on earth would a multivitamin or cell supplemnt provide that can support bacterial health in the gut?
The answer: fructooligosaccharides (FOSs). FOSs is a naturally occurring mild sweetener found in onion, garlic, chicory, banana, asparagus, and other vegetables and fruits. FOSs is comprised of linear units of fructose, and their size may vary from 2 fructose units up to 60. They are a non-digestible fiber that have many potential benefits in the body: they may aid in optimal mineral absorption and balance cholesterols.
For gut health, FOSs help support probiotic function because they act as a food source for probiotics. So Master Formula or Sulfurzyme powder, and the FOSs contained within it, help to support gut flora.
So there you go!
An option to support gut flora even when Life 9 is out of stock. Want to learn even more? Check out this post on chicory inulin and how it too can support gut health and help maintain a healthy weight.
